I am very opinionated when it comes to my son, and for good reason. I don't want him to have the half-values and mistaken relationships that abound in today's world. I want to help him my giving him a childhood full of love, care, and careful teaching and examples.
Three pledges into creating my slide show, I began to get serious about what I was typing. My pledges changed from a joking, "I pledge to always change your diaper with a smile," to "I pledge to feed your creativity and imagination." I really began to think about what I want to pledge to my son. I enjoyed the chance to thoughtfully review what influence I want to have in his life.
And because I could not stop at the allotted 5 pledges, I went on, creating my own list of these pledges. It became addicting and I had to stop myself from compulsively adding more to my numbered list of 43, to make it a nice, round, 50. :)
So now I want to dedicate this post to my son, Monkey (it's not his real name, silly!) who is by far, my sweetest passion in life. :)
I pledge to make you laugh every day.
I pledge to feed your creativity and imagination.
I pledge to let you be a child.
I pledge to show you the fun and beauty of life.
I pledge to love, care, and understand.
I pledge to listen to your problems.
I pledge to teach you respect, manners, and traditions.
I pledge to teach you responsibility for yourself, and your environment.
I pledge to be first, and foremost, your mother.
I pledge to love you. Always.
